The Woods

We stopped walking in the woods that summer.
It wasn’t because the treasure hunt trail went cold,
There was more to find, more of nature’s gold
The adventures of the Hammond family expedition didn’t stall out,
It was merely a temporary pause as we looked for a new route
The long treacherous march through hottest amazon rainforest didn’t scare,
With sheer imagination, we could brave any tv villain lair without a care
We didn’t get rescued from our perilous crash onto a remote island prison,
Well, that’s not true, we were glad our dad found us before the moon had risen
Definitely wasn’t to get out of the fated sword duel between the wizards from spaaaaaace,
The action picked up in the living room and the broken lamp was hard to replace
No, we didn’t finish the great world championship mud fights,
Despites mom’s wishes when she washed the whites
Nah, our hearty herd of belligerent buffalo didn’t get hijacked by bandits,
We had to give up the drive when the tired puppies became wet blankets
We didn’t stop because we were tired of wandering,
We didn’t change, never got tired of wondering
We stopped walking in the woods when they became Sherwood Villas,
And the gates grew high enough to keep out an army of Godzillas
That summer, we grew up, found new hobbies, explored different seas,
Started playing in worlds on paper, perhaps from those very same trees
