Perfection Does Not Exist, okay?

As a writer and a producer, there are many opportunities to say perfection is right around the corner. A little more effort and I will be satisfied with the project. It is an easy lie to fall into. But we all know perfection is impossible. No matter what it is, it can always be improved in some way.

Some people take that to mean that you should be content once it is in a reasonable state. Others take it to mean that it is never completed. It is a tricky line to find, but I find it by avoiding perfection entirely. I think of the word, better. Is this one better than the last? Then it is already a success. As long as I am making a better song, writing a better chapter, drawing a better face, then I will be satisfied. As long as I think each book is better than the last, then I am happy with it.

I am currently tinkering around with final mixes for my next album, and I am happy so say that this one is my best yet. Even if all the songs are older than my last album, I am putting in the effort to use new techniques and make it a better album than ever before. So next time I make a new album from scratch, it will be that much better than this one.

I think that search for perfection is what paralyzed me the most in the past. I didn't want to put anything out there unless it was perfect. But that led to me sitting on multiple book manuscripts and literally dozens of songs. This year, I am going to release my old music along with new stuff. This year, I am sending my latest book off to agents. This year, I am going to be happy with the best I can do right now and look forward to better in the future.

Short one this week, but it is Valentines. Here is your little reminder. Strive for better.

Today's Song: (There's Gotta Be) More to Life by Stacie Orrico

Still on the '00 train. The lyrics lined up nicely with a conversation I had the other day too.
